Meet Our Coaches

Brett Werner
Brett grew up in Northbrook where he played basketball from 2010-2014 at Glenbrook North. He was called up to Varsity as a sophomore for the IHSA State playoffs and went on to make his mark on the program for the next two years. At the University of Illinois, he was a manager for the Illini women’s basketball team and became interested in coaching and training. He spent two years as a GBN Varsity assistant coach, has been training kids around the North Shore for five years, and has coached GBN Feeder basketball for the past six seasons, most often being tasked with preparing the 8th graders for opportunities in high school and beyond. He currently trains many of the players on the 2024-25 GBN Varsity team. For the past three summers, he has coached at the Duke Basketball Camp.
Brett is passionate about the game of basketball, but more importantly, he is committed to developing the young players he works with both on and off the court. He is relatable, dedicated, knowledgable, and is able to find different ways to motivate kids to give their best effort.
Brett is excited to bring his expertise to the Blue Devils Basketball program.

Scott Lidskin
Scott Lidskin has been a premier youth basketball coach on the North Shore for the last twenty five years. He brings his intensity on the court while making sure to keep fun in mind with his young players off the court. His knowledge of the game and ability to bring out the best in his players is unrivaled. Whether coaching third graders or high schoolers, he prioritizes his players learning the fundamental principles of basketball to play as a team, while also developing individual talent.
Scott enjoyed his time and honed his coaching ability as the assistant varsity coach at Glenbrook North for 14 years. During that time period, the team won 12 conference championships in the CSL, and competed in numerous regional finals, sectionals, and super sectional championships. The Spartans earned a 3rd place finish down state in 2003 and won the state championship in 2005.
Additionally, Scott has been the Glenbrook North Feeder Director for 25 years while also coaching in the program for 10 of those years. He has experience in several AAU programs and has also created his own program. For four years, he led the North Shore Express to multiple top 15 finishes in the nation. He also spent four years coaching at Full Package, as well as two years at Rising Stars AAU. He gained additional perspective from another youth approach to basketball as a coach of Glenbrook Small Fry for six years. As the owner and a coach at the Illinois Old School Travel Program, he spent six years building a community of travel basketball teams and had great success helping his young players to improve. Many of his players went on to follow their dream of playing college basketball.
Scott has been a top basketball trainer for 25 plus years from 3rd graders to college players. Many former players have gone on to have successful basketball careers. Notably, he has trained and coached Jon Scheyer (2005 Illinois State Champion, 2010 National Champion at Duke, current Duke Men’s Basketball Head Coach), Iman Shumpert (spent his college career at Georgia Teach and 2016 NBA Champion), Sean Wallis (2005 Illinois State Champion and two time D3 Champion at Washington University), Zach Kelly (2005 Illinois State Champion and two time D3 Champion at Washington University), Alex Dragicevich (played at Notre Dame and Boston College), and Jeanie Boehm (Mcdonald’s All American and Harvard basketball player).
He has trained and coached current NCAA basketball players such as Nick Martinelli (Northwestern University), Cooper Noard (Cornell University), Josh Fridman (Illinois Wesleyan) Lexi Kerstein (University of Vermont), Braden Carlson (Mercer), Ryan Cohen (Wash U), and Nikki Kerstein (will be attending University of Missouri next year), as well as many others who have gone on to be successful on and off the court.
Scott is excited to bring his expertise to the Blue Devils Basketball program.
